President Yoweri Museveni has concluded the five-day East African Revival Ankole Convention at St. John’s Cathedral, Ruharo, in Mbarara City, praising the movement for its contribution to social transformation in the region.
Speaking at the climax of the celebrations, Museveni thanked the Bishops of Ankole for commemorating the historic anniversary and conveyed greetings from Maama Janet.
The President reflected on his long connection with the church, recalling that he first visited the compound as a young boy in 1949, before returning in 1953 and 1959.
He described his return after 77 years as a great blessing, saying the East African Revival played a significant role in transforming communities in Ankole.
According to Museveni, the Revival helped discourage alcoholism, tobacco use, adultery, dishonesty and superstition, while promoting education, hygiene and strong family values.
He also commended the Church for its continued contribution to socio-economic transformation, including promoting coffee growing and environmental conservation.
Museveni further said he would take up the proposal to establish a Revival Museum, stressing the importance of preserving the history of the movement for future generations.
The five-day convention featured prayer and worship, Bible exposition, preaching, music and choir sessions, testimonies, and teachings on Christian marriage, modernity, Christian unity and parenting.
The celebrations were held under the theme: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever” — Hebrews 13:8.
